Fresno Adult School Gets State Approval for
Web-enabled Attendance Collection and Class Management

Roseville, CA (June 3, 2002) – In a first for Adult School customers of KnowledgeCore Software, the School Fiscal Services Division of the California Department of Education has approved Fresno Adult School’s request to use a new process for attendance collection, grading and reporting via the Internet. The new process called eClassManager™ from KnowledgeCore Software targets improvements in the efficiency and accuracy over traditional paper-based scan sheets that use bubble forms. Benefits also flow to teachers and counselors who are given quick access to data and the ability to enter grades, credits and skills standards achievement from virtually any client device via the Internet or any network connection. A KnowledgeCore Software customer, the Fresno Adult School is one of the largest adult schools in California serving nearly 25,000 students.

The new eClassManager software is a cornerstone of KnowledgeCore Software’s AIM-Student Relationship Management™ (AIM-SRM) solution – the first adult school management system of its kind in the nation. Essentially, AIM-SRM is heavily data-driven and designed around the concepts of assessment, achievement and accountability. AIM-SRM captures the correct demographic data in a centralized database, and provides adult school administrators, teachers and counselors with instant access so they can make proactive decisions on how best to serve their students. eClassManager provides a real time on-line roster sheet that duplicates the existing scan roster sheet, allowing the teacher to enter student attendance, grades and even skills standards achievement directly online in place of marking scan sheets.

"We anticipate eClassManager will greatly reduce scan sheet errors resulting from poor bubbling techniques and marking devices that do not consistently meet the requirements for infrared scanners," says Mark Wilson, Director of the Fresno Adult School. "What’s more, what makes eClassManager most highly effective is our usage of Citrix® MetaFrame® and thin client architecture, resulting in 50% lower client hardware costs, significant savings on energy costs, and reduced paperwork for teachers."

"This is tremendous news for Fresno, and paves the way for other KnowledgeCore Software customers," says Robert LeVine, President and founder of KnowledgeCore Software. "Fresno Adult School is the first adult school in the state to implement an AIM-SRM/Citrix solution under a technology plan that is second to none. Fresno’s users get the best of all worlds in terms of a reliable and robust mainframe-like AIM-SRM application, Windows interface and functionality, full graphics capability on their terminals, and no support issues to worry about on the workstation/client side."

A weekly Signature Sheet is printed as a report of attendance showing the same information as current scanned sheets, including summary totals of the attendance hours. The approval is based on teachers signing and dating the Signature Sheets on a weekly basis. The Signature Sheets become the permanent record at the service center. Security is maintained by supplying teachers with a unique password and an administrator controlled security profile, and allowing teachers to access only sections to which they are assigned. The integrity of the electronic record is maintained through attendance change log records provided by the system, complete with an audit trail of additions, deletions and modifications.

The School Fiscal Services Division issued approval to the Fresno Adult School to commence full implementation of the new online process early in the 2002-2003 fiscal year.
